Dr Rob Elias and Dr Rachel Burman

Ethics Committee Chairs
Rob is a Consultant Kidney Doctor and Associate Medical Director at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. He set up and co-chairs the trust’s Clinical Ethics Advisory Group. That work includes providing support for teams making difficult clinical decisions in complex environments, particularly where there is moral distress amongst staff and/or disagreement between clinical teams and patients, families or carers. He studied philosophy at Cambridge before turning to medicine. His MD research was a social science study looking at how decisions about dialysis are made. He remains interested in what it is to do clinical ethics and how our views on what counts as ‘ethics’ are shaped.
