Dr Rachel Burman

FRCP MA
Rachel qualified in medicine in 1988 and became a consultant in 1997. She is works with the palliative care team at King’s College Hospital NHS Trust and is an honorary senior lecturer in the Department of Palliative Care, Policy and Rehabilitation. She worked in cardiology and neurology before entering a career in palliative care. This has left a commitment to the palliative care needs of patients with a non-malignant diagnosis. She has been principal investigator on a range of research projects looking at the palliative care needs and decision making processes of people with MS, Parkinson’s Disease and more recently. She has been a member of the RCP ethics Working Party publishing guidance on oral feeding difficulties and CAHN A Masters in Medical Law and Ethics and a Graduate Diploma in Law inform her interest in the HRA and MCA and their relevance to planning and complex decision making in health and social care provision. She is the former chair of the Association for Palliative Medicine, Ethics Committee and a member of the Fundraising Ethical Review Group for King’s College, London. She is co-chair of the Clinical Ethics Advisory Group at KCH
