Prof Atul Gupta
Consultant in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine
Professor Atul Gupta is the Head of the Children's Respiratory Service at King's College Hospital and a senior Consultant Respiratory Paediatrician. He is also a Professor of Paediatric Respiratory Medicine at King's College London.
He is also the Research and Innovation Lead at Variety Children’s Hospital, King’s College Hospital, London. Professor Gupta is the Clinical Lead for the South-East London Asthma Network and serves on the Respiratory Clinical Specialty Advisory Committee (CSAC) at the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH). He is the Audit and Quality Lead for the British Paediatric Respiratory Society (BPRS) and the Director of the Paediatric Respiratory Academy.
Professor Atul Gupta's research is dedicated to children with complex and life-limiting respiratory disorders. He has focused on clinical research involving novel treatments and prevention strategies for severe asthma and lung infections. Additionally, he collaborates in basic science research to prevent asthma and to investigate the mechanisms underlying steroid-resistant asthma and the role of vitamin D. With over 200 peer-reviewed papers (h-index 42) published in prestigious journals like The Lancet and The New England Journal of Medicine, Professor Gupta has significantly contributed to medical literature. He has also authored chapters in paediatric respiratory textbooks and published reviews covering all aspects of paediatric respiratory medicine. Professor Atul Gupta has collaborated on 18 clinical trials. He has taken significant leadership roles, serving as the Chief Investigator for six trials, the Principal Investigator for 15 trials, and the sub-principal Investigator for eight trials.
His contributions have been recognised with numerous national and international awards, including the Lorber Prize from the RCPCH, the James Fellowship from the British Medical Association, the VASR Memorial Gold Medal, the S.S. Manchanda Research Gold Medal, and the Dr. Somu Oration Award for his contributions to paediatric respiratory medicine.
